if you have not seen Chris Garcia’s speech upon winning the Best Fanzine Hugo Award, last year in Reno Nevada during Renovation, the 2011 Worldcon.

See it now, or see it again: it’s still amusing. One of Chris’s four 2012 Hugo nominations is for this speech.

And here are all of the 2012 Hugo Awards nominations.

Congratulations, Chris and Jo

SFContario 3 Guest Chris Garcia is nominated for not one, not two, not three, but four Hugo Awards.
However Chris is not in competition with another SFContario 3 Guest, Jo Walton. Jo is a nominee in the Best Novel category.
Chris is working his way toward Best Novel. Last year, after winning the Hugo for Best Fanzine,  Chris announced he wants to win a Hugo in every category and that he thinks Novel will be most difficult.

Last reminder that the registration rate for SFContario 2 increases tonight. The attending membership rate increases to $65 at 3 AM Eastern time. This will also be the rate at the door. You may register online at http://2011.sfcontario.ca/site/index.php/membership/register-online . You may alternately download a paper registration form and mail it in, but it must be postmarked today, 17 October, so in the mailbox by 5 PM.

Also, voting in the Aurora Awards closes tonight at 11:59 PM Pacific time, 2:59 AM Eastern time. You may vote online at http://www.prixaurorawards.ca/Membership/ . You must register at this URL first before you can vote. Registering with CSFFA is free, but there is a manual validation step by the Aurora Award administrator, so don’t leave this to the last minute; get this in before 9 PM Pacific/Midnight Eastern. Members of SFContario vote for free, others pay CSFFA a $5.50 voting fee. You don’t have to vote in every category, you can just vote in categories you are familiar with. There is information on the CSFFA site about all the nominees (click the plus signs in the website menu). The more people who vote, the stronger the awards are, so vote if you are able.

Our second-last reminder: Voting for the Aurora Awards ends at 11:59 PM Pacific time on October 17 (that is 2:59 AM Eastern on October 18), so there is just over two-and-a-half days left. You can go to http://www.prixaurorawards.ca/Membership/ to register and then vote in the Aurora Awards. Aurora voting is free to SFContario members. If you are leaving this to the last minute, you’ll want to be registered with the CSFFA, the sponsoring organization for the Auroras, by 9 PM Pacific time on Monday to ensure that you will be able to vote. (The voting fee is $5.50 for people who are not members of SFContario.) Wider participation makes for a better award, so be sure to vote!
